How to Treat your Dog's or Cat's Wounds

If your dog is curious and active, as many canines are, it's practically inevitable that he or she will be the victim of a bug bite or sting at some point in life. Even dogs that are not as inquisitive or active often get bitten by pesky insects. While in most cases bug bites are not serious for dogs, unless they suffer from hypersensitivity, these bites can be irritating and bothersome for your pet. Your dog will be very grateful if you can provide relief from pain and irritation under such circumstances. Therefore, it's helpful for pet owners to be familiar with the signs and symptoms of dog bug bites, as you will not always witness the actual occurrence and will only have the aftereffects to go by when trying to determine what is bothering your canine companion.

The symptoms that a bitten or stung dog will exhibit depend upon the type of insect that is responsible. For example, many dogs are plagued by fleas, which are small, wingless insects. Fleas are external parasites that feed upon the blood of animals such as dogs. Typically, a dog's coat will be infested with numerous fleas at one time, rather than just a single flea. As a result, the unfortunate canine may suffer from many tiny flea bites. Your dog's behavior can offer a clue as to whether or not fleas are at the root of your pet's irritation. Dogs with fleas tend to bite and scratch persistently at various parts of their body. Also, it's possible to observe fleas with the naked eye by combing through your dog's coat and looking for the tiny, dark insects crawling over your pet's skin.

When a dog or cat is bitten by a mosquito, on the other hand, there is likely to be only a single bite. Your dog will experience swelling and itching at the site of the bite, and the area may become red and slightly swollen. Stings from bees, wasps, and hornets will also cause swelling, sometimes in quite significant amounts. A dog that is stung by a bee or wasp will also suffer intense pain at the actual location of the sting. Redness in this area is also common, and the sting site may become hot to the touch. In the case of bees, the stinger may be left behind and will be visible. With spider bites, or if your dog has been stung multiple times, additional symptoms may be present, such as shivering and vomiting. These signs are more serious and if they are displayed by your dog, you should promptly alert a veterinarian.

If your dog is active, he’s likely to get into all kinds of scrapes. Literally. Canine Rescue Spray will ease your dog’s pain and help his wounds heal quickly. Ideal for any type of minor wound or skin irritation on dogs.

How to Treat your Dog's or Cat's Malnutrition with Essentially Good Vitamins!

Greetings to you, fellow pet dog or cat owner! Congratulations on finding PetWellbeing's blog site with all valuable information that you will find hopefully!

Today, we would like to treat your pet dog or cats to some vital, essential, all-natural vitamins!

Generally, vitamins and supplements are required in order to meet all of one's nutritional needs and to boost physiological function. There is a difference though between vitamins and medicative type treatments, a big difference! Medications are used to prevent or to treat illnesses. While being unable to be proven scientifically, since in science all is an inference, they usually still can do a good job, provided that one is aware that there are associated risks attached, as always.

Vitamins, instead, are used to help oneself or your pet to reach the highest optimal reach they can get, while being away from the all natural wild, hopefully speaking. Profit aside, we hope that we can all share and embrace in the naturallness of vitam supplements to add to your pet's health, while reducing chances of any artificial side effects.

Good job, and kudos to you for doing a good job with your pet. We all make mistakes, and we all learn from them, realizing simply what the barriers are, is ultimately the key.

In the meantime, try PetWellbeing's all-natural products:

Treat your pet to some healthy vitamins in order to reach and to give them highly effective results.

A powerful vitamin & antioxidant formula excellent for dogs.

A totally holistic product that replaces the vitamins, minerals, and digestive enzymes that a dog does not get from his processed food. It is excellent for all breeds and all ages from puppies to geriatric.

How to Treat your Dog's or Cat's Hypothyroidism

One of the largest commonly known diseases and symptoms to hit dogs, but not cats, is hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism is the condition that occurs when not enough thyroid hormones are engineered. This endocrine disorder, while not life-threatening and treatable, stems from the improper functioning of the thyroid gland, which is responsible for producing hormones that play a significant role in a number of physiological pathways. This disease causes a variety of symptoms and is often suspected in dogs that have trouble with weight gain or obesity and those that suffer from hair loss and skin problems.

So in order to prevent unnecessary suffering and the development of further health complications, it's important to begin treatment of hypothyroidism as early on as possible. In order for this to occur, prompt diagnosis is necessary. So if your canine buddy is behaving oddly or seems to be feeling under the weather, consult with a veterinarian so that the problem can be identified and dealt with quickly.

Common Dogs that Get Hypothyroidism

This disease usually develops in middle-aged and mid- to large- sized breeds of dogs between the ages of 4 to 10 years. Such breeds that appear to be predisposed to developing the condition include the Golden Retriever, Doberman Pinscher, Irish Setter, Miniature Schnauzer, Dachshund, Cocker Spaniel, and Airedale Terrier.

Symptoms of Hypothyroidism

Bald spots
Coat changes (loss of luster and greasy)
Dull
Drooping eyelids
General weakness
Gradual onset of listlessness and lethargy
Loss of luster
Low tolerance for exercise
Skin infections
Unpleasant odor
Weight gain

For official and immediate diagnosis, please bring your dog or cat to your local veterinarian.

How to Treat your Cat's or Dog's Skin Irritations

Has your dog or cat been recently affected or bothered by skin disease? There are a variety of skin diseases and irritations that are caused by numerable factors. If your pet dog or cat is experiencing skin problems or irritations, do not be alarmed. Most types of skin diseases can be treated and prevented.

Healthy skin, in general, in either your dog or cat, is a sign of an overall physically-abled and -bodied pet. Skin problems can occur because of the differing seasonal and temperate conditions or from allergies to food. Skin problems can range in span from sudden (acute) to long-term (indefinite) depending on the age, conditioning, and other factors related to the general physical, emotional, and psychological health of your pet. The important thing is to protect and strengthen your beloved right from the get-go.

Cat skin disorders are the most common pet ailments. A healthy animal has bright, odorless hair and skin, free of debris, grease and irritation. A cat's skin may be irritated if it has a rash, is dry and/or flaking, greasy, red, swollen or itchy. The causes of cat skin irritation and disease are numerous; these include environmental toxins that can irritate the skin, poor nutrition, mineral or vitamin deficiencies, and thyroid and kidney disorders.

During the healing process of cat skin diseases, skin eruptions or irritation are normal and are indicative of the healing process. Cat owners should pay close attention to the pet's environment such as his bed or sleeping space which should be examined frequently and cleaned or changed when necessary. All the same, we recommend that you first check with your vet for a diagnosis and consider using our natural, herbal remedy for your pet's skin problems.

Try PetWellbeing's all-natural remedies:

If you see that your dog or cat is scratching and is uncomfortable, try using our All Clear Ointment, which effectively treats skin medications of all sorts. This cream sets to heal dog skin affected by bacteria and fungal infections and other skin problems. The soothing ointment assists in clearing and calming the affected area and prevents infection. 1 bottle = 60ml/2.02oz.

This herbal spray is excellent for treating infected irritating skin problems on your pet. Our natural remedy will also boost your cat's overall immune system.

Cat skin irritation can be caused by allergies, insect bites, scratches, scrapes or wounds. Cats may excessively scratch the skin causing further irritation. Eventually the hair in the affected area can be torn out and the skin starts to bleed. An inflamed patch of skin may also ooze a clear or yellowish liquid. These are called hot spots, and can occur anywhere on the body. To help treat the wounds, clip the hair in the surrounding area and cleanse the area with a mild soap and water treatment. Then apply Feline Rescue Spray to reduce pain, decrease healing time and prevent infection. Other recommended preventative measures include covering the affected area and clipping your pet's nails to minimize the ill affects of scratching.

If your dog is active, he or she'll likely be getting into all kinds of scrapes. Literally. Canine Rescue Spray will ease your dog's pain and help his wounds heal quickly. Ideal for any type of minor wound or skin irritation on dogs.

Royal Coat provides your dog or cat with an excellent, all-natural source of EFAs (essential fatty acids) in order to to maintain healthy skin and shiny coats. Royal Coat EFA Express provides your dog or cat with necessary supplemental amounts of Omega-6 (borage oil) and Omega-3 (fish oil) most times missing, or in insignificant amounts in commercial pet food.

Running Water? How about a Natural Process of Filtered Water for your Dog or Cat?

{Thank you in advance to all our valued pet owners concerned for the wellbeing of dogs and cats! Kudos to you! We really appreciate your comments!} :-)

Fresh from our blog site, we have decided to inform you about PetWellbeing's Drinkwell fountains for dogs and cats. How many times has your cat tried to drink from the faucet or how many times have you caught your dog licking from somewhere he shouldn't have been licking in the first place?

In nature, moving water is much fresher than stagnant water. The movement constantly breaks the surface tension of the water and draws oxygen from the air into the water. This process is called aeration and it makes water more appealing to drink. Pets may be drawn by instinct to moving water for this reason. The Drinkwell Pet Fountain both filters and aerates continuously moving water to keep it much fresher than standing bowl water. Even pets who don't jump on counters to drink from faucets (or toilets) may drink more water using the Fountain. Why is this important? Many cats and dogs may not drink as much water as they should. This is one reason the urine becomes so concentrated and predisposes some pets to urinary tract disease, constipation or kidney disease.

In particular, cats with urinary tract or kidney disease have a critical need for water to support kidney function or prevent crystal formation and obstruction. The Drinkwell Pet Fountain is veterinarian designed and recommended by vet urinary specialists.

It encourages water intake and proper hydration in healthy pets, and is especially beneficial in pets with kidney or urinary tract disease.

How to Treat your Cat's or Dog's Kidney Disease

Kidney disease is a common and serious condition that can affect dogs and cats. The kidney acts as a filtration system, removing toxins and waste products from the body. When 75% of these organs cease to function properly, these substances begin to build up in the body, poisoning your friend's system and having a variety of negative effects. This disease is one of the leading causes of death for older dogs and mostly progresses gradually in our feline friends.

Kidney disease can be caused by poor genes associated with a proneness toward the disease, accidental ingestion of antifreeze containing ethylene glycol, and low grade, long term (chronic) inflammation of kidney tissues called chronic nephritis.

Symptoms of Kidney Disease

Arched back
Blood sometimes to appear in dog's urine
Dehydration (to check, gently pull your dog's stomach skin to see if the skin springs back)
Depression
Increased thirst
Increased urination
Lack of grooming and poor coat in cats
Lethargy
Loss of appetite
Significantly reduced urine production or no urine production
Stiff legs
Vommitting
Water consumption
Weight Loss

As always, our staff recommends that you firstly, bring your cat or dog to the veterinarian for a proper and official diagnosis. For immediate and effective treatment, try as well PetWellbeing's all-natural remedy:

Tripsy
An all-natural product that promotes healthy kidney function in cats. Tripsy fights infection and reduces the discomfort of feline kidney stones. Feline and canine tripsy helps your four-legged friend to release urine and acts as an anti-inflammatory, reducing pain.

Customer A

"My poodle has been on Tripsy for two weeks now and we have seen such a wonderful improvement. She was on death's door when we first started giving it to her. She would not eat and didn't want to move around anymore. Now she walks out to use the washroom like normal and she has gained her appetite back. Thank you so much for Tia's second chance. Lori in Ocala, FL"

Customer B

"My purchased Tripsy mainly for my female maltese, Nohea (no-hay-ah). She had kidney disease. Unfortunately, we let her go (put her down), on March 26th. But, I feel that the tripsy did work and she did get better. Sadly, we were feeding her some of the food, that was later pulled from the shelves due to the recall. So, even though the tripsy worked, feeding her the "bad" food counter-acted it. I & my family miss her very much. She's been with us for 13 years and she had a good life. I believe that your product gave us more time with her and did get her better. What's done is done....but I do thank your company for your product. I am now giving it to my 2 male maltese (Makana, 13 yrs. & Ke'ala, 9 yrs.) as a preventive. I only wished, I could have found your product earlier. Mahalo/Thank you... Vanessa"

Customer C

"I just want to tell you that my dog Maggie (16 years old) had been sick for about 6 months before I found out about Tripsy. She was diagnosed with kidney disease and was placed on fluids every day. She had good days and bad days, but mostly bad. She wasn't eating, vomiting frequently, having accidents, trembling and had seizures one evening. I thought it was about time to put her to rest until I heard about the Tripsy (which I thought would be a sham since I'm not really into holistic medicine).

After about one week on Tripsy I started to notice a difference. Although she's still not 100%, she seems to feel much better. She's still not eating much and is as skinny as a rail, but she isn't shaking anymore, isn't vomiting (only about once a month), and even has the energy to play sometimes. She still gets her daily dose of fluid in addition to her Tripsy (which I give her twice a day). Thanks a lot guys! I think you've made the quality of life for my Maggie a lot better! Debbie"

"Dear Folks @ Pet Well Being: I did want to Thank You So Much, I am an avid believer in natural remedies for all of my pets. I was at my wits end with my Abracadabra, my faithful 13 year old Shepherd. She was having such difficulty with Kidney Stones, I tried everything the Vet had me to do for her, other than helping her infections from passing the stones and providing some special diet food for her problem, Tripsy was the only thing that helped her, and within a few days. She also had a brief time where she was trying to pass a stone and I started her up on the Tripsy formula and within days she was able to pass her stone and back to her old self. I even told the Vet that they should look into carrying this item in their hospital. I am very grateful, and I was wondering do you think that Tripsy might be able to help some of these pets that were affected by the horrible food incident that has touched so many pets and pet owners? Kindest, Warmest Regards, Rhonda Las Vegas, NV"

"I am writing to let you know how grateful my family and I are for the Tripsy product we recently got from your website. Our dog Larry is a real member of our family and the kids absolutely love him. Naturally, it is important to keep him healthy.

When Larry was recently diagnosed with kidney disease, it really upset us all. The kids were distraught and thought he would die. After the vet treated him with a fluid therapy, we were put on to Tripsy and hoped it would help in his healing process. As the last few weeks have passed, Larry has been getting better, looking better and even the vet is pleased with his condition. It is great to know that Larry will be himself again. Thank you from us all. Liz - Boston, MA"

"My 13 year old dog lost almost half her body weight and went from being diagnosed as a "goner" from advanced kidney failure to gaining weight and regaining her energy on Tripsy and Multi Essentials. "I purchased Tripsy for my sixteen year old cat,Calico. The vet said that she was in kidney failure, and that she would need subQ treatments twice a day for the rest of her life. Within a week of beginning Tripsy I was able to wean her off of SubQ. She now takes two doses of Tripsy per day. Calico is back to her old self: purring, grooming, and she has a shiny coat. I am so glad that I found your website. Thank you for offering such a wonderful product! I do have a question. The bottle is rather large, and I am afraid that it will expire before it is all used. Can Tripsy be safely frozen? Thank you so much! B. Darling"

Customer I

"All my life I have had cats but before now, none of them have had kidney disease. My current cat, Brit, is a kind, gentle animal who was recently diagnosed with kidney disease. Being a bit of a health food, natural product, environmentally aware kind of girl, my first thought was to seek out some natural products to give to Brit. After a brief search I came across Tripsy on your website. After reading the details and potential benefits I decided this was what I was looking for. I was right! It worked like a charm and I can't thank you enough. Brit is picking up nicely and that tells me Tripsy worked! Angela Lincoln, NE"

How to Treat your Dog's or Cat's Diarrhea

Does your dog or cat suffer from diarrhea? This ailment can arise because of many causes and involves the passing of soft or liquid stools, sometimes with a bad odor. Also, when a cat or dog is suffering diarrhea, they tend to pass such stools with greater frequency and urgency than usual. In addition, a dog or cat that is afflicted with this problem may experience tenderness in its rectal area and may have matted and soiled hair beneath its tail. Rather than being an actual illness or disease itself, diarrhea is usually a symptom of other problems or conditions. The factors that can lead to diarrhea in cats and dogs are numerous, and often the underlying cause will not be serious and this problem will only affect a pet for a very short period of time, clearing up on its own. However, in some circumstances diarrhea is a sign of a more serious, and occasionally life-threatening, condition.

If your dog or cat is suffering from diarrhea and you are trying to determine whether this is serious or not, there are a number of signs to look for. First of all, if your dog is chronically experiencing diarrhea, he or she should be examined by a veterinarian. In other words, if the diarrhea persists for more than a few days, this could be a sign that the underlying cause could be serious. Moreover, continued diarrhea can lead to dehydration which can have serious health consequences of its own.

Symptoms of Canine and Feline Diarrhea

Abdominal pain
Bloating
Blood in your dog's stool
Dehydration
Fever
Lethargy
Listlessness
Stools containing blood
Stools containing mucous
Vommiting

If you see serious, prolonged symptoms associated with your cat's or dog's diarrhea, it is always our recommendation to take your beloved four-legged friend to the vet.

In the meantime, for more immediate, all-natural treatment, please consider using PetWellbeing's all-natural remedies:

Plantaeris
An all-natural remedy to stop your cat's or dog's diarrhea. Because of its pleasant taste, your cat or dog will happily take their medicine. It also works to improve your cat's overall health and boost their immune system.

Customer B

Customer C

"Last August while we went on vacation we put our 11 month old Newfoundland dog into a boarding kennel that is owned and operated by a Veterinarian. When our dog returned home after our vacation, he had a terrible case of irritated bowl syndrome. I made the mistake of not providing food for him and let the vet provide the food (I thought he would be in good hands). No matter what he ate, everything came out like water. I took him to the vets office and he went was tested for various things and went on some medication, none of which made any difference.

I started doing my own research online and found out about the Plantaeris. I ordered a bottle to try and it seemed to make a little difference but he would quickly resort to diarrhea. I started removing everything from his ingestion one at a time (rawhide dog bones, milk bones, treats, human food) to try to see if there was anything causing the problem. He could not tolerate his original dry food (ultra premium brand) that he had dome so well on for months was the only thing left so I started searching for a new food as well.

In the mean time I was making progress and I eliminated virtually everything from his ingestion. I finally tried a Costco ultra premium brand that he seemed to respond to. I ended up using 3 bottles of Plantaeris and had to minimize exposure to anything new and it finally worked. I don't think I could have done it without Plantaeris.

It has been 3 months since his stools have been somewhat normal (and now they are) and I still need to be careful with doggy treats as they will cause his stool to go bad. While at the Vet for his last round of shots I described everything that happened to our pet and how I was able to get over the problem (Plantaeris combined with care). I gave an empty bottle to the Vet in recommendation of the product and she spoke how she really believes in the natural remedies and was grateful for being introduced to this product. They had the file of our dog and all the tests that were run and the prescription approach did not work. Fortunately I discovered petwellbeing and Plantaeris. Regards Frank in Irvine, CA"

"This product worked so well, my Vet asked me to give him some. Tom in Los Angeles"

"When your cat gets diarrhea, it really can be a stressful time. I know this first hand as two months ago my cat Buffy had a really bad bout. The poor little thing was depressed for days until I got the Plantaeris product I ordered from you. Of course, I made sure that I gave Buffy a good diet too but when I coupled that with the Plantaeris remedy, her diarrhea got better in no time. Since this incident, I always keep it handy but, touch wood, Buffy has been diarrhea free ever since. Excellent product. Thank you all AlexHuntington, NY"

Customer F
"Our dog is always getting into garbage, and eating anything and everything. It's a constant battle with vomiting and diarrhea. We tried Plantaeris for the first time last week and it seemed to work. The sickness cleared up faster than normal. I plan on continuing to use this product. Karin in Denver"

How to Treat your Dog's or Cat's Hyperthyroidism

Hyperthyroidism

Has your cat or dog recently been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism?

Feline and canine hyperthyroidism is an endocrine disease that causes overproduction of the thyroid hormone from the thyroid gland. The presence of excessive amounts of thyroid hormone then affects the animal's entire system, causing many problems, including hyperactivity. Hyperthyroidism is much more common in cats than in dogs and affects middle-aged and older cats more; both males and females are equally at risk of developing this disorder. This condition affects every organ and cell in a cat's or dog's body, and thus can cause a variety of different symptoms and warning signs.

Symptoms of Hyperthyroidism

Changes in coat (dull and/or unkempt fur resulting)
Diarrhea
Elevated heart rate
Excessive appetite
Excessive thirst
Higher breathing
Hyperactivity
More active
Nervousness
Restless
Signs of irritability
Vommitting
Weight loss despite an unusually ravenous appetite.

If you suspect that your cat or dog may be suffering from this condition, try PetWellbeing's all natural product.

An all-natural liquid supplement that balances thyroid hyperactivity and relieves related associated symptoms.

But just don't take our word for it. Have a read over some of our actual pet owner customer reviews:

Customer A

PetWellbeing saved my cat's life. After a routine visit, the vet informed me that my cat, who is 10 years old, had a thryoid condition. None of the options they offered were guaranteed and worse, I was told several of the options could have additional side effects. Natural remedies have worked well in my own life, so I turned to the internet hoping for the same for my cat. Resthyro was a miracle! My cat now plays like he did years ago, eats without vomiting, maintains a healthy weight again and clearly has benefited from Resthyro. I would HIGHLY recommend any Pet Wellbeing product and wish the vet has offered your website as an alternative. Thank you for making a difference!

Customer B

Product works very well for my cat she is eating better, grooming better and has gained at least 2 pounds. Product far easier to give over thyroid pills. Kathy G. freysbush Rd Fort Plain, NY 13339

How to Treat your Cat's or Dog's Liver Disease

The liver is a large organ that performs a variety of important functions both in the biochemical and physiological pathways of your pet. The liver partakes in helping digestion, detoxifying the blood stream, repleneshing the nutrient supply, synthesizing plasma protein, storing glycogen, fighting diseases, and promoting healthy growth. Since this organ is involved in many tasks, it's not surprising that there are a variety of negative consequences when liver disease develops. However, it takes time for these negative effects to become apparent, as the liver has a great reserve capacity. As a result of this characteristic, liver disease generally does not begin to show itself until two-thirds or more of the organ is affected.

For pet owners who have dogs, be advised that liver disease is a relatively common disorder among older dogs.

Symptoms of Liver Disease

Ascites (fluid build up in the abdomen)
Confusion
Convulsions (in extreme circumstances)
Dark colored urine
Decreased appetite
Depression
Diarrhea
Excessive thirst otherwise known as polydipsia
Excessive urination otherwise known as polyuria
Expanded abdomen due to fluid retention
Jaundice (yellowing of the gums, whites of eyes and even the skin)
Lethargy
Pale gums and associated bleeding tendencies
Vommiting
Weakness
Weight loss

Possible Causes of Liver Disease

Altered blood flow to the liver due to heart disease or a congenital abnormality
Poisonous substances eaten by the pet
Viral and bacterial infections
(*For dogs, please note that some breeds such as Bedlingtons and West Highland White Terriers do not excrete copper as they should)

To alleviate liver disease, try PetWellbeing's all-natural product as a remedy:

Milk Thistle
An all-natural, highly effective remedy to treat liver disease in either your cat or dog and to treat their digestive disorders.

Customer A

"She just kept getting worse and then one night we came across your web site that spoke about liquid milk thistle. So we started using it and slowly but surely she has gotten so healthy that you would not even know it is the same dog."

Customer B

"My wonderful Aussie, Kira started to not eat. [It] was a battle to get her to eat anything. And she started losing weight.

I always take her mountain biking with me since she was a little puppy. One day when we were out she was running very slowly which is not like her. So I took her to the emergency vet who said she was just fine, which I did not believe. So on Monday I took her to my regular vet who noticed that her abdomen was full of fluid, and a e ray could not work because of the fluid. She then sent me to another vet who had a another screening device . The name escapes me at this minute. But she was able to see that Kira's liver was very very small and diseased, and told me that she would not live to be a old dog.

I was destroyed. She is everything to me. She set us up with Milk thistle Marin and other pills. She just kept getting worse and then one night we came across your web site that spoke about liquid milk thistle. So we started using it and slowly but surely she has gotten so healthy that would not even know it is the same dog.

The vet is just delighted as am I. She has gained 12 lbs and runs and plays like nothing is wrong with her. She has got so used to me hand feeding her that it is the only way she will eat. She still will not eat dry dog food but hey I can live with that. I would swear that when we started using the liquid milk thistle in conjunction with the other Marin [milk thistle] she just starting getting better. If you looked at her now you would never know that she was sick. So that is my story, thanks Dale"

Customer C

"My dog Bingo has had a bad liver for a while now, probably from polluted water. We tried quite a few things to get him back to health but nothing quite seemed to work. Our vet is great and does everything he can. We decided to try something different so went on the internet looking for some kind of supplement which was not full of chemicals. Luckily, we landed on your site and found Milk Thistle. It was within our price range, so we got it. The results were really great. Bingo reacted well to it, his liver condition has gradually improved and he has more energy than he has had for ages! Thank you for your help Katie New Orleans, LA"

Customer D

"My dog, George is so much better on it. I really think that the Milk Thistle has helped with that immensely. He has never had the appetite that he now has. He is a runt sheltie and I used to have to almost beg him to eat; to hand feed him. He now relishes his meals and loves treats as well. He now is a slim 13 + lbs. Shelties normally weigh between 20 - 25 lbs. He is doing GREAT! I'm so glad I found you online! Ellen Davis"

Customer E

"My cat Freddie is so cool. He has huge amounts of energy, a great personality and the cutest little face. I always know when Freddie is ill and the most recent time it was worse than I thought as he had liver disease. The vet gave me various treatments for Freddie and I also looked for some kind of natural supplement which someone told me was a good idea too. Milk Thistle was what they were talking about. Soon after ordering, it arrived and I started administering it to Freddie. I am not kidding you, I really noticed the difference. Freddie is well on his way to good health and I just wanted to say thanks and encourage anyone else who has a cat with liver disease to try Milk Thistle"

Janet - Paducah, KY

Customer F

"My 8 year old rat terrier, Larry, was diagnosed with a liver tumor in February 2007. The veterinarian did not give us an optimistic prognosis. We opted not to do surgery. I researched liver disease in dogs which lead me to your website. Since treating Larry with the liquid milk thistle, his condition has improved. That was 6 months ago. We continue to hope for the best and will continue the treatment with the liquid milk thistle. I encourage anyone who has a dog to try this treatment rather than put them through unnecessary and painful surgery. His quality of life is what we were concerned with and at this time he is living large! Tamara in Houston Texas"

Customer G

"I just wanted to say Thank You from the bottom of my heart.

My precious little "girl" Sabrina suffers from chronic hepatitis, and her vet stressed that giving her milk thistle would help her a lot. We tried giving her pills, but that didn't work out at all.

I happened upon your website about 6 weeks ago and ordered liquid milk thistle your company offered.

Not only was it much easier to administer, but I just received the results of Sabrina's recent blood work. It's nothing short of a miracle! Her blood count numbers, while I don't know exactly what each means went from 2290 down to 278!!! Another count went from 812 to 159!

I cannot tell you how grateful I am for this product. Again, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Sincerely, Ann Ponchak"

How to Treat Coughing in your Dog or Cat

Coughing in your Pet

*{{Cough, cough}}*, surprised or not, your beloved four-legged friend can also experience coughing. They aren't exempt. A cough usually happens not as an illness of its own, but as a symptom of another condition or problem.

A cough is a sudden and noisy act of expiration that expels air from the lungs. A defense mechanism and natural reflex, coughing serves to expel foreign matter or accumulated secretions from the airways. In many cases, this reflex occurs in response to an irritation or inflammation of the mucus lining of the trachea or lungs. Sometimes a bout of coughing can lead to retching and even vomiting.

A canine or feline cough can manifest itself in several different forms, including dry, hacking, wheezy, moist, or weak. Dry canine coughs can be associated with tonsillitis or kennel cough, while a mostly nocturnal cough accompanied by difficulty with breathing may be signs of a serious heart condition. As a result, a dog's cough can be a symptom of a multitude of different medical conditions and in many cases it will be just one of several warning signs. Depending upon the cause of the canine cough, cough medicine may be an effective treatment on its own, or it may need to be used in conjunction with other forms of treatment. No matter what type of cough your dog is displaying, however, he or she should be examined by a veterinary doctor.

Symptoms of Canine or Feline Coughing or Breathing Problems

Apparent sore throat
Coughing up blood
Lethargy
Loss of appetite
Possible discharge from your dog's or cat's nose or eyes
Soft, moist cough accompanied by symptoms (e.g. fever, mucous discharge from nasal passages)

How to Treat your Dog or Cat for Arthritis

Treating your Dog or Cat for Arthritis

Arthritis is a painful condition that can affect adults, children, and even our beloved canine companions.

Canine Arthritis

Dogs frequently suffer from arthritis. If your pet has this disease, his joints will become inflamed (swollen) and painful as the cartilage and connective tissues of his joints slowly break down.

Large breeds of dogs tend to suffer from arthritis more often than smaller breeds. This is probably due simply to the extra weight and stress on the joints of larger breeds. What is less clear is why purebred dogs, particularly males, suffer from canine arthritis more often than mixed breeds. How to Treat your Dog or Cat for Worms

Treating your Dog or Cat for Worms

Internal parasites can pose as a significant risk factor in the life of your dog or cat. It is a common occurence that can affect your canine or feline friend at any stage of their life. Worms, such as roundworms, tapeworms, hookworms, and whipworms, are internal parasites that commonly infect dogs, causing a myriad of problems. These pesky parasites drain nutrients from your pet's blood, adversely affecting its general health.

Canine Worms

While dog worm infections are common and can be quite easily controlled and cured, some of these parasites can be dangerous and when certain types of these infections are left untreated, the results can be deadly. Therefore, it's good to have an idea of what to keep an eye out for so that you can ensure prompt treatment for your dog if he or she indeed does become a victim of parasitic worms.

Symptoms of Canine Worms

Feline Worms

Most cats are exposed to worms at some point in their life, especially as kittens. These parasites live in a cat's intestines, stealing nutrients away from the infected animal and sometimes causing internal damage. Moreover, when suffering from a worm infestation, a cat becomes more susceptible to other infections and illnesses. Since these parasites can compromise your pet's health in a variety of ways, it's important to make sure that your cat is properly treated whenever it is infected with worms. In order to ensure that this is possible, it's helpful to be able to recognize some of the common symptoms that animals display when suffering from an infestation of internal parasites.

How to Treat your Dog or Cat for Ear Infections

Treating your Dog or Cat for Ear Infections

Have you ever had an annoying itch that you just couldn't bear to stand? Imagine how your four-legged friend must feel whenever he or she experiences an ear infection (also known as otisis), but has no way of pawing it away right away through the use of like fingers.

An ear infection occurs whenever unusually high numbers of bacteria and yeast cells penetrate into the ear. This can happen in a number of ways. Having a large buildup of earwax, being held in humid conditions, experiencing an overabundance of ear cleaning treatments, and innately, already harbouring endocrine illnesses can all contribute to your pet's otitis.
Ear Infection in Dogs

In dogs, there are certain types that experience ear infections more because of their: (a) susceptibilty to allergies (b) particular type of skin or glands located in the ear canal, and (c) predisposition to otitis due to the type and amount of hair present in their little ear canals.

Such types of dogs that are susceptible to ear disease include:

For group (a)

Cocker Spaniels
Labrador Retrievers
Schnauzers
West Highland Terriers
For group (b)
Basset Hounds
Beagles
Labradors
Springer Spaniels
For group (c)
Lhasa Apsos
Pekingese
Poodles
Shih Tzus
Pekingese
Poodles
Ear Infection in Cats
Some cats may be more prone to developing ear infections than others. For example, cats with allergies, excess moisture in their ears, abnormal ear structure, significant amounts of hair within their ears, or tumors may be more likely to develop otitis. Occasionally, ear infections are a sign of another condition, such as a hormonal abnormality or a hereditary disease.
Log onto PetWellbeing's Learning Centre for more information on ear infections in your pet.

Symptoms of Ear Infections in your Dog

Irritability in behaviour
Listlessness
Redness and swelling of the ear flap and canal
Release of an odorous discharge that is either yellowish or black in color
Rubbing of the sides of their head on the ground, furniture, or other objects
Scratching and pawing at their ears
Shaking of their head and ears
Smelly ears

When ear infections go untreated, it can cause narrowing of the ear canal which can lead to hearing loss. When the nerves of the inner ear are affected by an infection, your pet may become dizzy, tilt it's head to one side, walk in circles, and display unusual eye movements referred to as nystagmus.
Ear Mites
Ear mites are pesky little insects that can infect your dog or cat. They are external parasites and will live on the body and in the ears of canines, although they most frequently infect the ears. The type of ear mite that most commonly affects dogs is classified as otodectes cynotis and is similar to a tiny tick.
Symptoms of Ear Mite Infestation
Dark discharge from the ears consisting of earwax, blood, biochemicals, and the actual ear mites
Ear Wax
Scratches and sores already present in and around their ears
Scratching and/or rubbing at their ears Shaking of the ears Shaking of the head

*Note for your dog:

Although shaking and scratching are the most typical warning signs that canines with ear mites display, these parasites can still be present even in a dog that does not show these signs and behaviors. It is believed that this can occur because the intense itching sensation results from a hypersensitivity reaction to the presence of the ear mites. Dogs that do not experience this hypersensitivity reaction will not suffer from the troublesome itching symptoms that other dogs do. Yet, it does seem that the majority of infected canines do indeed suffer from severe itching and thus will shake and scratch at their head and ears.

How to Treat your Cat's or Dog's Diabetes

Treating your Cat or Dog for Diabetes

Have you heard that cats and dogs too can experience diabetes? It's true and it can be equally as scary a process as it can be for human beings.
Diabetes mellitus is a common endocrine disorder that either disallows your beloved's pancreas from producing enough insulin or prevents their bodies from using insulin properly. Why is insulin so important? Insulin is basically a hormone that allows sugar (glucose) in the blood to enter cells, where the sugar is stored or burned for fuel in order to help the body function. Without insulin, glucose remains in the blood stream until it is poured forth by the kidneys and is lost in the urine.

Type 1 Diabetes

100% of diabetic dogs and up to 50% of diabetic cats suffer from Type 1 diabetes mellitus which involves their body not being able to produce any insulin.

Type 2 Diabetes

More commonly known to affect cats, Type 2 diabetes typically involves up to 50% of diabetic cats. A pet with Type 2 diabetes either can no longer make enough insulin or can no longer properly use the insulin it produces.

Possible Causes of Diabetes Include:

Hereditary factors (genetic reasons)
Pancreatitis
Use of corticosteroids
Use of progestogens and other conditions affecting the pancreas

Diabetes Symptoms

Apparent weakness
Breakdown of body fat
Breath that smells like nail polish remover
Cataracts in both your dog's eyes
Decreased appetite
Depression
Development of Ketoacidosis and severe illness
Excessive thirst and consumption of water
Excessive urination
Pain in the abdomen of your cat
Production of ketones
Sudden blindness
Weight loss despite increased appetite
