Resuscitation Pt 2 Cardiac Massage
Yesterday we went over the first part if a heart beat is found. The second part is if there is no heart beat (as part of the resuscitation prodcedure) which is cardiac message.
Place the heel of your hand on top, then firmly press both hands down and forward toward the brain. This squeezes blood out of the heart and into the brain. Repeat 6 times at one-second intervals.
After 6 cardiac messages, give one breath of mouth to nose resuscitation. Continue until you feel a heart beat and then continue with regular resuscitation.
Side note: You must get the heart going before attempting mouth to nose resuscitation. Don't worry about bruising a rip as this is a life or death situation. Large dogs need very forceful pressure. Cardiac message should be kept up for at least 10 minutes.
