Preparing a pet disaster kit
When assembling emergency kits we think of ourselves and rarely about our pets needs. This is not 'cause we don't love our pets, in fact most of us think of them as family. We're just so preoccupied in making sure that we are okay that we assume our pets natural instincts will kick in, which they will, however, they do need our assistance in surviving natural disasters.
In addition to keeping water rations aside for ourselves, the rule of thumb for dogs and cats is 1 C for every 10 lbs in body weight.
Considering that our multi-essential vitamins have the shelf life of 10+ years unopened, adding this to the kit to be mixed in with food or water is a definite benefit for both pet(s) and owners.
With the lack of nutrition, environmental damage and illnesses that may occur during natural disasters, you want to make sure that your cat and or dog is healthy and prevent illness and or shock. The multi-essential vitamins will give your cat and or dog exactly what he/she needs during that stressful period.
We also have a first aid kit for both cats and dogs that is also a perfect addition to any disaster kit.
Packing a few treats and a toy to keep the pet calm and occupied will not only distract the animal in such a stressful situation but can also provide stimulation between yourself and your animal to keep your mind off the situation until appropriate help arrives.
