New Product for Dog and Cat Cushing's Disease and Addison's Disease
Along with our new hyperthyroid product Resthyro, we are now also carrying a new glandular supplement. Supraglan is an herbal formula with normalizing action for adrenal gland dysfunction. This can be used for both Cushing's disease and Addison's disease. We have extra information listed on our site, under the product information section.
I would also like to say Merry Christmas to you all. I will be off on holiday until January 2nd, and will look forward to all your new questions in the New Year.

Hello,
I have a five year old Chocolate Lab who was just diagnosed with Addison's Disease. It is the naturally occuring type, not the type created by administering Cortisone (I am very against steroid usage if I can help it, so the Addison's diagnosis is particularly troubling to me). Anyway, I have been instructed to give her Prednisone on an "as needed" basis, and also have her get a shot of something that will replace her mineralocorticoids when she displays signs of "weakness and depression" (estimated monthly).
I am just wondering if Superaglan should only be used if hormone therapy is completely stopped - which scares me because she almost died last weekend from hypercalcemia (which is when we found out the Addison's diagnosis). Or if it can be used to help her create her own hormones so she won't need the shot and Prednisone as frequently (maybe eventually never?).
Finally, the veterinarians gave me the impression that her adrenal glands have likely been attacked by her own auto-immune system and cannot rebuild themselves - therefore never being able to function again. They also told me that the only side effect the hormone therapy will have is increased thirst and appetite.
I cannot find a holistic veterinarian in Utah that can help me with a more holistic approach.
Your advice would be very appreciated. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
Metra Barton-Henry
Hi Metra...I happened upon this site as my dog has just been diagnosed with Cushing's disease. I have a wonderful holistic vet here in Nevada that does phone consultations. I hope that it is within protocol here for me to give you her name and number. Nancy Brandt, DVM (702) 617-3285
