Dog Skin Problems after Round Worm Treatment

"I wanted to know if worming my puppy will cause hair loss. He had severe round worm. I have noticed thinning hair around his head mostly eye area and the top of his back near his tail. He is scratching and chewing these areas. He does not have fleas or any sores. Could worms cause this? or the worm meds?"

I know one of the symptoms of round worm can be excessive itching. Also the accumulation of toxins can cause skin disorders. Skin is an organ of elimination so it is sensitive to taking prescriptions.

Definitely make sure that his diet is good. If he is on grocery store food you may want to add a food supplement like Nupro. Also as long as the skin is not painful groom him to stimulate the hair re-growth. Even rubbing him with a dry cloth helps to distribute the oils in his coat and stimulate the skin. Unless it has been diagnosed by a vet as having a flea allergy or other specific problems, I would not recommend bathing him. He may just need to heal.

If the hair loss starts to get worse go and see your vet to rule out a more serious problem.
